Ancestral Tabasco: a route to reconnect with the olme, mayan, and chontales roots, Tabasco
Abstract
Before the modern state existed, the lands we now know as Tabasco, the Eden of Mexico, were home to incredible civilizations such as the Olmecs, the Mayans, and the Chontals, a people who, with great effort, continue to endure and flourish to this day. These cultures left a profound legacy, which we can still see in their ruins, traditions, typical dishes, and ways of life that give life to the region's identity. The Olmec culture, which many call the "mother culture" of Mesoamerica, was one of the first to settle here, and even today its imposing sculptures speak to its greatness. Later, the Mayans brought impressive advances in architecture and writing, such as the archaeological remains that we still preserve in Tabasco. But what fascinates me most are the Chontals, who keep their customs, language, and traditions alive, showcasing the cultural richness that still thrives in the state. The objective of this research is to highlight that Tabasco is not only history; It's a perfect place for cultural and sustainable tourism. Here you can connect with those ancestral roots through its archaeological sites, festivals, food, and natural landscapes. Would you like to discover which of the 17 municipalities offers a step back in time and experience it firsthand?
